Questions

What families wonder first

Do you take cases outside Santa Ana?

Yes, in the courts I'm admitted to practice in, and by phone or video. I'll tell you on the first call if another lawyer would serve you better.

Do you speak Spanish?

Yes. Spanish is my first language, and Brenda, who answers the phone, speaks it too. Court papers are in English, and I explain each one in Spanish.

How much does a divorce cost?

An uncontested divorce is a flat fee, plus the court's filing fee. A contested one is billed by the hour, with a budget for each phase. The fees page explains both.

Will my children have to testify?

Rarely, and courts try to avoid it. If a judge wants to hear from a child, there are gentler ways than a witness stand. I'll explain the options for your court.

What if we already agree on everything?

Then you may need less than you think. I can draft the agreement and the forms, or tell you if you can do it on your own with a self-help center.

Can you represent both of us?

No. A lawyer can represent only one spouse or parent. If you both want help reaching an agreement, a neutral mediator can meet with you together.

How do I leave this site quickly?

Press Quick exit at the top of any page. It takes you to a weather site. It can't erase your history, so use a private window if someone may check your device.

What do I need to bring to our first meeting?

Only yourself, if that's all you have. If you can, bring any court papers you've received and a rough list of income and debts.

Left with a question of your own?

Write it to me. I read every message myself.
