How it works
From first call to finished
Every family is different, but most cases move through these five steps.
- 01
Step 1: The first call
About twenty minutes, by phone or video. You tell me where things stand and I tell you which package looks right.
- 02
Step 2: The fee in writing
You get the fee, what it covers and what the court charges separately. Nothing starts until you've read it and said yes.
- 03
Step 3: Your papers
You gather what you can from a short checklist. I draft the forms and send every page to you to read.
- 04
Step 4: Filing and waiting
I file, send you copies and keep the calendar. Anything the court sends comes to me too, and I explain it.
- 05
Step 5: The agreement or the hearing
If you agree, the judge signs. If not, we prepare together and I speak for you at the hearing.
Before you call
What to have nearby
None of this is required for the first call. It just speeds things up.
About the marriage
The date, the place and any earlier cases between you.
About the children
Names, birthdates and where they sleep during the week.
About money
Recent pay stubs, a tax return and a rough list of what you owe.
About property
The house, cars and accounts, and whose name is on each.
Papers you were handed
Anything from the court or the other side, with the dates you got it.
A safe way to reach you
The phone or email that's safe to use, and the times that are best.
Start when it feels possible
Book the first call, or write a few lines and I'll reply within a business day.
